My candle has small surface cracks — is it still okay to use?

Yes! Natural waxes such as beeswax can sometimes develop small cracks as they cool, even after resmoothing the top with a heat gun due to beeswax being a harder wax that shrinks as it cools. This is purely cosmetic and won’t affect how your candle burns.

My candle won't stay lit, what do I do?

It is most likely the wick needs to be trimmed. a wood wick should be trimmed to 1/8" before lighting. Refer to the Candle Care page for proper trimming techniques.

Do I really need to follow the "First burn principle"?

Yes! To ensure that your candle doesn't tunnel, use the first burn principle. Candles have memories when it comes to melting. Tunneling happens when a candle isn't burned long enough to melt to the edge of the container, so in turn, the next time you light your candle, the wax will only melt to where it melted last. On the first burn, you should let your candle burn for at least 2-3 hours (4hrs for larger candles) or until the melt pool reaches the edge or close enough to the edge. DO NOT burn your candle for longer than 4 hours though because that will cause it to smoke and soot and become too hot. Extinguish and let it fully solidify before trimming the wick and relighting.

Do I really need to trim my wick every time?

Yes! Trimming your wick helps your candle to burn longer overall. Wood wicks can be finicky, but have so many benefits. an untrimmed wick can produce too big of a flame, candle to keep burning out, and soot. With proper care a wood wick should burn longer and not soot. Follow the link to learn how to trim a wick before burning!

How should I care for my candles?
